Second Prime was created to champion and develop the work of exceptional female playwrights 50+ through an ongoing incubator process dedicated to new work and production.
We are thrilled to launch the series with Joni Fritz, whose writing is sharp, funny, deeply human, and wildly theatrical. We’ll be developing her one-act A Leave of Absence in a focused, curated room of actors, writers, and directors.
Not multiple pieces. Not a rotation of readers.
One play. The writer in the room.
Time to push—structure, character, stakes—without rushing past anything.
A Leave of Absence is a different play from How Can I Help You?, Joni Fritz’s scene in the 2026 Pelham Fringe Festival.
