The Rebeck weeks
It started with a table read of Loose Knit in February. It ended with nine brand-new plays, and with Theresa Rebeck herself on a screen talking to fifty people about how she works.
In February the group sat down and read Theresa Rebeck’s Loose Knit.
On June 3 they came back for seven more scenes from across her work, reading fast, staying in it, and talking about what sparked.
Fourteen days later the writers brought back what that night had started. Eleven original short plays were submitted. Nine were read at the table, each of them for the first time. The evening ran past its usual finish and nobody split it across two nights.
Somewhere in those two weeks, Theresa Rebeck joined the room on screen and spent an evening with fifty Pelham Fringe members, talking about how she writes.
I feel like every time I go to a Fringe event I leave with my jaw on the floor. It is that same feeling you get when you know you have been a part of something unforgettable.
